A little Update

Just an update for everyone, we are currently in the process of building our 50 lb batch equipment that we will use to test processes and products over the next few months. We also got the very exciting news that an Iowa State University Chemical Engineering class will be taking up the Maltings process to design a system for us to use in the future once we get up into the 500-1000 lb batch range, hopefully next summer.

Also, we have continued to travel and approach brewers and distillers about our product, and the response has been simply amazing. Everyone is so excited and we can’t wait to get our product out there for them to make delicious beers and whiskies with.

You can check out more regular updates of our progress, as well as pictures, at our facebook page: www.facebook.com/walshartisanmaltings

Minnesota State Fair!

Today we head up to the Minnesota State Fair. On top of being a wonderful gathering place for fried food and family, it’s also one of many places where the things that brought Walsh Artisan Maltings about (local food, agricultural diversification and local Craft Beer) come together. We will be visiting with Minnesota Small Grain growers (barley is a small grain) and the Land of 10,000 Beers, the new exhibit from the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild. Here we’ll see presentations from Surly, Summit and Schell’s Breweries, as well as one on Malting 101! What Luck!

See you at the Fair!

Tasting tonight!

In 24 hours, our panel of experts should be taking their first sips orĀ 417 Brewing‘s two SMaSH Pale Ales. One of these Single Malt and Single Hop beers is made with Walsh Artisan Malting made 2 Row Pale Barley Malt, the other with Rahr Malting made 2 Row Pale Barley Malt. We’ll post pictures, notes and whatever else here tomorrow night!
